Chapter 8: Artificial Intelligence as an ally in medical education: Experiences in the academic environment
Synopsis
The incorporation of new technologies, especially artificial intelligence (AI), into the medical training of higher education students represents a considerable challenge, but also a valuable opportunity to enhance learning. This technological evolution has sparked growing interest in evaluating and understanding the relevance and impact that AI can have as a tool supporting autonomous learning, particularly in careers that demand high specialization, such as medicine. This article explores, based on the author's experience as a medical student, how artificial intelligence is transforming study techniques and information organization. It also analyzes its potential to strengthen clinical thinking, opening up new possibilities for more efficient and in-depth learning. To this end, five widely recognized and scientifically endorsed artificial intelligence platforms were used. Through the systematic exploration of these digital tools, it was found that, when used ethically, responsibly, and critically, they can become an effective complement to reinforce and expand the knowledge acquired in the classroom, thus promoting more dynamic, personalized learning in line with the current demands of the medical field.
